Safety on the Slopes

The awesome terrain, bountiful snow and natural beauty of Mt. Hood Meadows attract a variety of winter enthusiasts who share a passion for the sports of skiing and snowboarding. We strive to make your experience enjoyable and safe but please remember that you are responsible for your own actions.

Regardless of how you decide to enjoy the slopes, always show courtesy to others and be aware that there are elements of risk in skiing and riding. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Personal awareness and a firm commitment to safety for you and those around you can help reduce the inherent risks in the sport and in the alpine environment.  

Your safety depends on your knowledge and your actions. Please learn and abide by the Responsibility Code, a code of conduct for snowsports. If you choose to play in one of our progression terrain parks please be ParkSMART, a code of conduct for freestyle terrain. Be a  LIFT STAR by being prepared for chairlift use and behaving responsibly while in the air.

Be aware that guests at MHM have duties under Oregon State Law and Hood River County Ordinance. They codify the Responsibility Code and require those involved in on-slope incidents to render aid in the case of collision and report all incidents to the resort. Please notify Ski Patrol of collisions and report injuries. For Ski Patrol emergencies please call 503.438.3216.

The Trail Map is an important resource.  Use it to find Ski Patrol and Providence Mountain Medical Clinic locations. Read about the Closed Boundary, Gated Terrain Management policies, and Rescue Fees from closed and out-of-bounds areas. Guests skiing in steep and ungroomed terrain should be familiar with Deep Snow Safety and have some Avalanche Awareness.
