First Time Lessons
Learning to ski or snowboard really only takes a sense of adventure and a willingness to give it a try. With the right attitude, you'll very quickly find yourself moving beyond the beginner level. Adult First Time Group Lessons are for students ages 13 and older, and are presented in a group format (usually with six or less first timers learning together).
Lesson start times are at 9:30 AM and 1 PM, as well as 4 PM for Meadows After Dark. Check in at the lesson area, which is located next to our new Sahale lodge. Just look for the green banners and fencing.
How to get here:
If you plan on driving, get directions here. You should expect about 1.5-2 hours of driving time from Portland, and should plan for an 8 AM arrival on weekends and holidays, and a 8:30 AM arrival on weekdays, in order to make the first group lesson of the day.
What to wear:
Waterproof pants, jacket, and gloves, a hat that covers your ears or a helmet (helmets are available for rent in the Rental Center), and goggles (sunglasses are OK on sunny days). Sunscreen is recommended every day. Dressing in layers is always a good idea so you can adjust your temperature.
What to expect:
In your first two hour lesson, you should expect to spend about 30 minutes getting introduced to your equipment, sliding around on flat terrain, learning to walk up hill, and how to get up from a fall. You will then spend the next 45 minutes learning to turn at least one direction and stop. After we practice these skills, the group will head to the Buttercup Chairlift to continue working on turning and stopping for the rest of the lesson. Our goal for your first lesson is to get you skiing or riding the Buttercup Chair on your own!
