Professional Instruction - Your Ticket to More Fun on the Mountain!
The Meadows Learning Center is an industry leader for students wanting to advance their skills or learn to ski/ride for the first time.
Terrain & Facilities: Mt. Hood Meadows has some of the best terrain, lifts and facilities for lesson participants in the Northwest. Our fully enclosed Conveyor Lift known as the “Ballroom Carpet” is very easy for beginners to load and unload compared to rope tows and chairlifts, while protecting riders from the outside conditions. This gives students a gradual introduction to uphill travel without any intimidation.
Our Children’s Learning Center provides a place where kids can do art projects and play games before and after lessons, eat lunch and take breaks from the weather in our secure facility away from the rest of the public. Mt. Hood Meadows is the only ski resort in the Northwest to have a group lesson program for snowboarders as young as 4! The Children's Learning Center has its own state of the art rental equipment for lesson participants with Rossignol early rise technology which makes skis and boards easier to turn especially in deeper snow. There is even room for our youngest students to practice using their equipment indoors before heading out on the snow.
We have a great variety of beginner through advanced terrain, which allows students to ski a variety of runs no matter what their ability so they can progress slowly to steeper terrain without the need to make any large increases in terrain difficulty to keep progressing.
Instructor Training: At Mt. Hood Meadows, our instructor training team is composed of some of the top ski professionals in the country. Our Resort Services Director, Chris Kastner, is a former Professional Ski Instructors of America Alpine team member and we have multiple PSIA-NW Technical Team Members, more than any other school in the Northwest. Our instructor training program is recognized around the Northwest as a model for other resorts because of our large investment in it.
Student Centered Lessons: We hire instructors who are passionate about snow sports and who are excited to share that passion with their students. Not every student has the same background or goals therefore we work hard to get to know each of our students and what they are hoping to get out of our lessons so we can customize the experience for them.
Focus on Safety: As with any sport, Skiing & Snowboarding carry with them inherent risks. We work hard to educate students on how they can reduce these risks. Some of the tools which facilitate this are the skier/rider Responsibility Code to help snow sports participants understand how to conduct themselves safely and the edict associated with participating in skiing & Snowboarding. We use Smart Style to teach the safety and edict associated with using terrain parks and our innovative Lifts Stars program which helps students learn the basics of riding a chairlift in a fun and exciting way.
Our staff is excited to share their passion for snow sports with you!
