Mt. Hood Meadows is covered in a snowy blanket measuring two-and-a-half feet in the base area and nearly 40 inches at mid-mountain. The resort readies itself for the busy holidays, with lifts operating from 9 AM - 9 PM daily (with the exception of December 30 when lifts close at 4 PM and New Year’s Eve when lifts run until midnight).
General Manager Greg Pack took some runs today and credits the Meadows mountain teams for the great conditions, saying, “Mother Nature may not have blessed us with a lot of snow, but we are blessed with cold weather great for snow making. Our snow harvesters have been moving snow wherever we need it and we’ll continue to make the best surface conditions for carving and cruising through the holidays.”
Pack noted Meadows' learning terrain is fully covered with snow, and Meadows is staffed up with professionals ready for those learning to ride over the holidays. Reservations for children and adult lessons (and equipment rentals) are advised to assure space is available and to get the best price by purchasing online in advance.
Ski and Snowboard Lessons
Meadows has been operating daily with five of six high-speed quads running, providing lift access to most of the mountain. Skiers and riders need to be aware of hazards and unmarked obstacles. Pack recommends sticking to the groom where he made some perfect turns today.
Free Transportation Daily from Hood River
Meadows has partnered with Columbia Area Transit to provide free shuttle service from Hood River to the slopes every day. Extra shuttles will run during the holidays - a schedule can be found at SkiHood.com/Shuttle.
Meadows also offers round trip transportation from Portland daily, beginning the day after Christmas. There are three pickup locations and the round trip cost is just $29. Park&Ride
It’s not all downhill at Mt. Hood Meadows
Meadows Nordic Center is open daily from 9 AM - 4 PM through January 6 before returning to its regular Thursday - Monday schedule. The Nordic Center offers cross country equipment rentals and provides lessons daily.
Snowshoe tours go out daily at 1:30 PM during the holidays. The two-hour tour with snowshoe rentals (includes snowshoes and poles) is $50 ($25 for just the tour) with a wonderful tour through trees and meadows with a scenic view of frosty Umbrella Falls.
