Weather report looks awesome for this weekend!

Hi Fellow Sliders,

The weather report just keeps getting better for this coming weekend. High pressure is building. The sun, snow, and terrain are going to create an awesome alpine experience.

Looking at this weather report, I’m so glad we waived the May challenge last weekend and are opening again this weekend! Thanks for all your input and encouragement.

The crew is busy dialing in the parks and pipes as we speak. We’ll have the GIANT beer garden and BBQ all set up for the Meadows afternoon beach bash. The Gear Box has a huge sale still going with great last minute deals on demo boards as well as apparel - check it out. The Snow Sports Learning Center is still offering lessons including a deeply discounted Learn to Ski or Ride lift/lesson/rental package for those who want to try the sport for the first time. Our staff is anxious to roll out the red carpet for YOU!

Remember to call your friends and family and rally at the Meadows this weekend. It’s going to rock.

See you soon!

Dave

Dave, is Heather going to be open? I'm hoping so. I'm planning on coming to Mt Hood with two buddies, and if Heather is open we'll definitely be there.

Dave's reply: Thanks for the question. We're planning on opening Heather but not Shooting Star Express or Hood River Express this weekend. Snowcat skiing is finished due to some hazards our patrol is not comfortable with. - Dave

Great news that Heather should be open. If the crowd gets big, I do hope there is a chance of getting Shooting Star going. I will be there Saturday, and I'm working on getting a friend to join me. Looks like it will be a great day on Cascade!

It does look like a great weekend for skiing! I have to laugh though when you say that snowcat skiing is finished; when did it ever start??? Oh, maybe you opened it last weekend to ski in the rain. Well, keep up the good work and maybe next year the snowcat skiing will really be utilized like in the LONG PAST years when there's powder.

EVERYONE, LET'S GO SKIING!!!!!!!!!

Dave, or anyone else for that matter, what are the ideal skiing and boarding hours for Spring Sliding...specifically for this Saturday? Curious to know what times it will be too icey and what times it will be to slushy/heavy. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Once again, for like 4th published time, thanks for staying open. I'll do my part towards making it a success.

Be Well,

James

Dave's reply: Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, I was in a 2 day meeting in Portland. Usually, the skiers like the earlier morning conditions because they are hard and the snowboarders like the conditions later in the day because the freestyle terrain is softer. - Dave

Its May and your opening time is still 9 AM. What gives?? Its going to be hot this weekend and the sun will be high in the sky. That means snow will be soft at opening and mush by noon ... Why haven't you adjusted your operating times accordingly? That 1 - 3 PM window will be pretty sloppy skiing, but we're gonna miss some sweet snow between 8 and 9 AM.

Dave's reply: The skiers like to come early and leave early. The snowboarders like to come late and leave late. Our hours of 9:00am to 3:00pm are intended to address both requests. - Dave

Well for us Sunday seems to be a fabulous day for boarding! I can't think of a better way to spend Mother's Day! Although, I am sure my mom has some other ideas. We can make everyone happy....My daughter and I are boarding in the am then going home to take a ciesta...and heading to the folks place in the pm for dinner. :-)

It should be taken into account that today is Mother's Day and a lot of people that would be up on the mountain will have commitments and obligations. There was a very nice crowd up here today (Saturday) and there is no reason that should not continue onto next weekend. I am not ready to hang it up yet...

Dave's reply: 10-4. We'll be open next weekend. - Dave

Dave: How do you come up with the attendance numbers? Is it based off the number of cars in the lot?. Ticket sales?, counting the people off the tops of the lifts? or a combo of these? Back in the day you used to have the top shack lift ops log the people coming off the lifts. Is this still done? Seems like there were more then 2K people up there on Sat. Curious....thanks for spinning up Heather it was sweet! Nof

Dave's reply: Thanks for your question. We count cars and multiply by 2.5 people per car and then deduct employees. It works real well. - Dave

Thank you Dave. Although I could not do my part this weekend, I did it last weekend bringing up a van load of boys. They had a great time even with the wet weather. Hopefully I will be able to have another chance next weekend. Again, thanks for listening to the people and putting forth your best effort on this. Can't wait already for next season.
